These are the proverbs of King Solomon of Israel, the son of David. Proverbs will teach you wisdom and self-control and how to understand sayings with deep meanings. You will learn what is right and honest and fair. From these, an ordinary person can learn to be smart, and young people can gain knowledge and good sense. If you are already wise, you will become even wiser.

Proverbs 1:1-5a

If you are smart, you will learn to understand proverbs and sayings, as well as words of wisdom, and all kinds of riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

-Proverbs 9:10

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
