Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.

-Romans 8:5

L : I will spend at least one period of the week about .

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

-John 15:4-5

“When we live questionable lives people should see our strange behavior and ask us about our motivations and then we should be able to speak about Jesus the way surfers would speak about Kelly Slater, with energy and enthusiasm, with reverence and awe, with delight and wonder.”

LIFE APPLICATION
To discuss during the week with your family or Life Group

1. Gilbert talked about how fear and laziness can be missional killers that keep us from surprising the world. How have you seen that in your own life? How will listening to the Spirit help?

2. Is your struggle more towards isolation from unbelievers or the opposite end of the spectrum where your life doesn’t look too differently than unbelievers? What can you do to better “be in the world but not of the world?”

3. Gilbert shared the story from the Surprise the World book and the excitement the surfers had talking about Kelly Slater.  What famous person do you know the most about? Be honest, is your excitement level as high when you talk about Jesus as it is about them? How will reading the Gospels over and over again help with your enthusiasm?

4. What is your next step as a result of this message?
