Great Money Principle
If I don't have the money to pay cash for something I want, then I'm not allowed to buy it.

Some people pretend to be rich but really have nothing.

-Proverbs 13:7

3 Values of Becoming Debt Free

1. I must embrace the value of .

A person without self-control is like a house with its doors and windows knocked out.

-Proverbs 25:28

Principle:  If I learn to say, "No" for a short time, then I'll be able to say, "Yes" for the rest of my life.

2.  I must embrace the value of .

We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Then he received the highest position in heaven, the one next to the throne of God.

-Hebrews 12:2

Principle:  Sometimes I must give up something I love for the sake of something I love even more.

Cost of Opportunity Lost

  • The average American owes $14517 in consumer debt.

* If I pay $217.93 per month on $14517 at 18 percent it will take me years to pay off this debt for a total amount paid of $ .

* If instead I had invested $217.93 per month at 12 percent for 40 years, I would have had $ .

* If I never made the $14517 in purchases to begin with and had instead invested it, plus added $217.93 per month, at the end of 40 years I would have had $ .

3.  I must embrace the value of .

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. What is the first thing you will do? Won’t you sit down and figure out how much it will cost and if you have enough money to pay for it?

-Luke 14:28

If you plan and work hard, you will have plenty; if you get in a hurry, you will end up poor.

-Proverbs 21:5

My 10-Year Debt Free Plan

LIFE APPLICATION
To discuss during the week with your family or Life Group

1.  What excites you about being debt free? What are the challenges you see to getting there?

2.  Review each of the 3 values to embrace.  Which one will be most difficult for you to implement?  What are some practical next steps you can take to get there?

3.  Put together your plan and discuss it with someone else.  Ask them to hold you accountable to seeing it through.
