Message notes

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

-Matthew 4:18-22

1. My potential is based on Jesus , not my  . (Ephesians 3:14-21; John 14; Acts 4:23-35)

Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.  When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.

-Matthew 14:22-36

2. is how I replace my inability with His ability. (Proverbs 3:5; I Peter 2; Philippians 4:13)

3. I am to in His ability, so my life is an opportunity for others to discover their potential inHim. (Ephesians 2:10; John 1:3; Colossians 1:13-20)

4. I am not in over capabilities, I am an  of potential. (2 Timothy 2:2; Ephesians6:12-20)

LIFE APPLICATION
To discuss during the week with your family or Life Group

1. What were you doing when Jesus found you?  Have you left your capability and inabilities, and trusted Jesus' ability?
2. What doubt is distracting you from the potential God sees in you?
3. Who is watching you, that needs to see your potential in Jesus, more than your achievements or inabilities?
4. What is your next step as a result of this message?
