There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him.

-Luke 2:40

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover festival.  When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual.  After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn’t miss him at first, because they assumed he was among the other travelers. But when he didn’t show up that evening, they started looking for him among their relatives and friends.

-Luke 2:41-44

When they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions.

-Luke 2:45-46

Everyone who heard him was surprised at how much he knew and at the answers he gave.

-Luke 2:47

His parents didn’t know what to think. “Son,” his mother said to him, “why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for you everywhere.”

-Luke 2:48

“But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand the meaning of what he said.

-Luke 2:49-50

Jesus went back to Nazareth with his parents and obeyed them. His mother kept on thinking about all that had happened. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

-Luke 2:51-52

To discuss during the week with your family or Life Group

1. Tell about a time you lost something. How did you feel?  What was the result?
2. What is the significance of Jesus first recorded words?
3. Tell about a time you’ve been lost or confused in your faith.  What happened?
4. What is your next step as a result of this message?
